The Barbershop is a passion project born from more than 20 years of teaching DJing and music production, alongside my own career as a DJ, producer and lifelong vinyl collector. At
its heart is a purpose-built studio space, created specifically to house one-to-one lessons and provide a dedicated environment for learning, experimenting and developing your craft.

Over the years, I’ve had countless people approach me specifically wanting to learn how to DJ with vinyl. While there are now more DJ schools and online courses than ever, I noticed that very few place vinyl at the centre of what they teach. For me, learning with records develops a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of DJing — training your ears, understanding music and rhythm, and learning to mix without relying on visual cues.

That was the inspiration behind creating four dedicated one-to-one courses at The Barbershop: two focused on vinyl-based DJing and two on sample-based music production. Each is designed to provide focused, hands-on tuition, whether you’re starting from scratch, looking to strengthen existing skills, or wanting to develop a more individual approach to DJing and production.

Vinyl sits at the heart of all four courses — not simply for nostalgia, but because of the role records have played in shaping DJ culture, hip-hop, house, R&B and sample-based music as a whole. The aim is to combine that foundation with the tools and techniques used by DJs and producers today.
